Ubisoft has largely been flying high this generation with some of the best and most consistent selling titles on the market. Between franchises like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six, the company has several genres cornered. But last year they hit a big speed bump. The failure of several major titles caused quite a stir, especially the flopping of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, something we heard did so poorly it caused the company to rethink its entire structure. And today we got reports how that shook out.

Via a report by VGC, Ubisoft has revamped their editorial team in efforts to give new creative directions for their franchises. Ideally, it will help them to make their franchises more distinct from one another, giving them each a more unique identity and not blend so many of the same ideas together. How much this will affect games already in development that have been delayed, such as Watch Dogs: Legion, is unclear, or if this is something that will not have a major impact until much later down the road.

It’s a good move on paper. While Ubisoft has refined its formula to near perfection over the years, it is true that a lot of their games have started to feel a little too similar in its structure and systems. It’ll be exciting to see what kind of changes the company can come up to refresh their IPs in the future.
