Nintendo Is Aware of Switch Stock Shortages in US, “More Systems Are on the Way”

It seems it’s very hard for most people out there – especially in North America – to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch right now (at least at the console’s retail price of $299). Due to a combination of surge in sales as people prepare to isolate themselves in their homes in the midst of a pandemic, and Nintendo’s supply lines reportedly having slowed down due to the same, the console seems to be out of stock at most major retailers.

As GameSpot points out, the Switch is currently in not in stock at the likes of Amazon, eBay, and Best Buy. While the cheaper Nintendo Switch Lite isn’t facing stock shortages as severe as the regular model, it is still sold out at Amazon, and very likely will be facing similar shortages following flurry of purchases as well. 

Nintendo of America provided a statement regarding this to GameSpot, explaining that they’re aware of the issue, and that they’re working on getting more consoles out to retailers to renew stocks.

“Nintendo Switch hardware is selling out at various retail locations in the U.S., but more systems are on the way,” they said. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Incidentally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons also launched last Friday, and has been amassing impressive sales figures across the globe, so it’s likely that that had a hand to play in the console’s boosted sales as well. In Japan, for instance, the game’s launch resulted in the Switch seeing the most sales in a single week than it ever has in the region- including its launch week.
