We’ve been hearing the whispers of multimedia and retail giant Amazon getting into the gaming business for some time. Next month they will release The New World and The Crucible, but both have marketing very much on the lowkey, but the big splash the company is bound to make hasn’t happened just yet. That could be their upcoming cloud-based streaming service, but it could also be at least one more year before we see that.

Amazon has reportedly been planning to unveil and release the service at some point this year. We’ve yet to hear anything about it since the end of last year, and seems it’s very likely it’s been pushed back due to issues with the coronavirus pandemic. As reported by the New York Times, the service is codenamed Project Tempo. While Amazon is looking at possibly getting an early version out this year, most likely the full service won’t hit until 2021. You can read the full article through here.

Project Tempo will be a cloud-based service, much like Google’s Stadia, which has struggled to get a foothold in the market. It’s said that gaming will the “most significant investment in original entertainment” for Amazon since creating their Prime video service and the mass of original content for that. This service is said to also have some tie into Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, in some form, but it’s not clear just yet how. The picture of Tempo is still a bit murky, so hopefully more details will emerge soon.
