DICE: Battlefield 3 Features Better Hit Detection; Destruction Qualities Detailed

We have some more interesting information on Battlefield 3 for you. DICE explains how Battlefield 3 is going to be a way more improved game over Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 2. As you all know the game from DICE is going head-to-head with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and needs to stand out on its own against it.

What major ingredients DICE have to do that? Improved netcode and Hit Detection.

It’s Alan Kertz again, the developer from DICE who shares all these nice things with us. He said that the hit-detection is massively improved over Bad Company 2, so you can actually expect people to die when you shoot them and no more of death lag. It also depends on connection to connection so you can’t really rely on all that. It’s nice to know that DICE is working hard to improve it so that the gameplay experience is very good.

He also had a lot to say when it comes to the destruction qualities of the game. You can penetrate through thin metal, wood and glass but not brick concrete and thicker metal.

Thin metal, wood, glass can be shot through, brick concrete and thicker metal cannot,” he replied.

That was expected and logical when you think about it, really. He also mentioned that bullets can penetrate lighter surfaces.

Yes bullets can penetrate light surfaces,” he said. Again, logical but hey, not everyone knows that, right?

If you are expecting to play this game for a long, long time. Battlefield 3 has the ingredients to make it happen. Kertz mentions that the game has a deep progression system which will make people play the game for many years.

As you already know, leveling up a kit requires 100 hours, again revealed by Kertz. So, if you are in for the long run, this is just the game you need.

Yes, on 360 achievements and on PS3 trophies. There’s also a deep in game progression system for all platforms,” he mentioned.

The game is not available on Steam so unfortunately for PC gamers, there won’t be any achievements available, but graphically they have the upper hand. Console gamers on the other hand can enjoy all these features at a reduced graphical cost.

Battlefield 3 releases on October 25th for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Tell us what you think of these changes in the comments section below.
