Today has been quite the one for gaming. Not only did we got a lot of news coming out of Microsoft about their next Xbox, Nintendo boasted with the sales of their Switch hardware breaking 55 million units sold, as well as absurd software sales that should make your jaw drop. And the thing about the Switch? It isn’t even grown yet, according to Nintendo.

In an investors Q&A, when talking about what the lifespan of the system, a representative of the company said the system was basically still in its start up phase. To be exact, we’re “barely in the middle of the Switch cycle,” meaning that the hybrid has several years left. This shouldn’t be too surprising, considering the success the system has shown, but there you have it (thanks to David Gibson for transcribing the Q&A).

The Switch launched in 2017, and if we’re barely ‘halfway’ through that means we probably have a bare minimum of three more years on the market for our little hybrid in some form or fashion. It’s also possible Nintendo could launch a successor in that time frame but still support the Switch. Only time will tell, but either way, the Switch is here to stay.
