League of Legends Wild Rift

With Legends of Runeterra launching in late April and Valorant out tomorrow, Riot Games is currently on fire with the number of new releases. Add another one to the pile with League of Legends: Wild Rift, a mobile version of the MOBA which aims to streamline things while maintaining the core gameplay. Check out the developer diary below which outlines exactly how the team is achieving that.

Like Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor, the control scheme sees players using a joystick on the touchscreen to move their character. Match times are also significantly reduced thanks to a smaller map, faster purchasing of items for one’s Champion, additional buffs courtesy of new drakes and much more. Even the Nexus won’t have turrets around it, which means you can’t delay the inevitable like in the PC version.

The roster of Champions will also be significantly smaller at launch and some have seen changes to their abilities to fit the controls and pacing. Additional Champions will be added post-launch but again, don’t expect them to be 1:1 copies of their PC counterparts. The first phase of the game’s alpha will on June 5th and run for two weeks in Brazil and the Philippines. You can sign up for the test here.
