The Switch is unique in that it’s both a traditional console and a handheld. While you can use it as the hybrid console Nintendo designed it as, it’s also very easy to use it as just a handheld or just a console. If you live in a house where multiple people use the console, for instance, it’s easy to see why you might want multiple Switches.

Apparently, the number of folks who want more than one Switch is pretty large, as Nintendo has announced that more than 20% of Switch sales last year went to households that already owned the console. The news came in a recent investor Q&A that saw company president Shuntaro Furukawa speaking about the various groups that own Switch systems.

“In the previous fiscal year, household demand for multiple systems accounted for roughly 20% of unit sales of the Nintendo Switch family of systems,” Furukawa said. “Going forward, we expect demand for multiple systems per household will increase even as hardware unit sales grow.”

Furukawa also said that “significant sales growth is continuing in Asia,” and that Nintendo believes “there is still room for sufficient growth of new demand in Europe and the United States.” To achieve that, Nintendo will have to “thoroughly convey the appeal of existing titles and future titles.”

In addition, the Q&A also touched on Nintendo’s record R&D spending and said that “several” new games would be releasing this year.
