Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch OLED model yesterday, and though there are many who are disappointed at the lack of 4K functionality after several leaks had suggested that the new Switch variant would indeed have that feature, the upcoming redesign still does have quite a bit of things for fans to look forward to. Some of these changes can be found in the dock as well, which, in addition to having a slightly altered design, now also has an ethernet port.
And thankfully, players can purchase the dock separately as well, so those who already have the base version of the Switch and don’t want to get the new model can just go ahead and get the new dock to avail of its new features. Nintendo confirmed this in a statement to Digital Trends, though they did also say that the dock can only be purchased separately from Nintendo’s website- not at retail, and not on online retailers’ websites. There’s no info on how much this standalone purchase will cost though.
“The white dock and black dock will be sold separately (no HDMI cable, no AC adaptor, not in a package) on the Nintendo online store. It will not be sold at retail,” a Nintendo rep said.
The Nintendo Switch OLED is launching on October 8, the same day that Metroid Dread releases. Nintendo has also confirmed that the model doesn’t have more RAM or a new CPU.
