Moonscars

Studio Black Mermaid has released a new trailer for its upcoming 2D Souls-like game Moonscars. Alongside the trailer, store pages for the game are now also live on Steam and the Humble Store.

The trailer emphasises Moonscars’ dark fantasy setting, while showing off combat skills and non-linear level design. Those interested can check out the free demo that is currently available on Steam, and will be available through the end of Steam Next Fest on June 20.

Moonscars goes for a desaturated look, with highlights of contrasting colours like red and yellow. The trailer shows off one of the game’s zones: The Earth Bowels.

In true Metroidvania fashion, the ability to dash through the air will have to be discovered by players so that it can be used to explore further areas of Moonscars. You can expect several other lock-and-key ability-gating design instances as well, true to the genre.

Ultimately, Moonscars’ new trailer ends by showing off one of the game’s boss fights—Cruel Lajos—who is described to have been a comrade of the player character in the past. Check it out below.
