Elden Ring’s Success Doesn’t Affect Studio’s Plans for Future Projects – Director

Just because Elden Ring was incredibly successful, doesn't mean that FromSoftware's future plans will be affected, says Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Elden Ring and Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki has stated that the commercial and critical success of Elden Ring hasn’t really affected FromSoftware’s plans on future games and projects. Speaking to IGN after the recent DICE Awards, Miyazaki responded to a question about whether the financial success of Elden Ring means that we’ll see more of Elden Ring in the future.

“Obviously Elden Ring is a commercial success,” Miyazaki replied. “Everybody’s aware about that, but it doesn’t really affect what we are going to create next. We basically keep creating the game that we want to create, and that’s our policy. It’s very simple.

“It was obviously a good experience for me and the other team members working on Elden Ring. Sometimes we were all super excited about what we were doing. Sometimes we failed to do certain things in the game, implementing something into the game. But whatever the case it was a really good experience and we basically want to keep creating the game which has a very big worldview universe and let the players feel the adventure spirit.”

Elden Ring recently crossed an impressive milestone, having shipped 20 million copies worldwide in both physical and digital sales. Elden Ring was released a little over a year ago, back in February 2022, and was met with almost immediate praise and critical and commercial success.

FromSoftware is yet to confirm whether we’ll be seeing any DLC for Elden Ring. The studio, however, is currently working on Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, which is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
