The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is less than a month away from launch now, and with Nintendo finally beginning to show more of the game in the lead-up to its release, the excitement and anticipation surrounding it is continue to heat up by the day. Its final pre-launch trailer was unveiled recently, which means more official details are likely to be scant between now and release- but it seems some new tidbits of information have nonetheless emerged.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s official website has been updated, detailing where the game will kick off. Interestingly enough, as the game begins, Link will find himself on one of the mysterious Sky Islands, where he’ll have to gain access to new abilities before being able to return to the surface- which means that specific Sky Island (or group of islands) is likely to serve as Tears of the Kingdom’s equivalent of Breath of the Wild’s Great Plateau.

“Link begins his journey on one of the many mysterious floating islands that have suddenly appeared in the skies high above Hyrule,” the website reads. “It’s there our hero will have to gain new abilities before returning to the surface world to begin his epic adventure.”

Meanwhile, though the Sky Islands scattered all over Hyrule will, of course, provide a host of new content and locations to explore, as Nintendo has said before, the surface world of Hyrule itself will also have plenty of changes as opposed to the map in Breath of the Wild.

“The sky isn’t the only thing that’s changed in Hyrule,” the website says. “Familiar locations have been dramatically transformed, with new towns, dank caves, and mysterious gaping chasms springing up across the world—all waiting to be explored.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is due out on May 12 for the Nintendo Switch.
