Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft Classic will be getting new hardcore servers this summer. Playing in these new servers will be a dangerous affair, since dying will mean that your character gets permanently killed.

While the studio itself hasn’t revealed any details about features of the new hardcore servers, Blizzard developer Josh Greenfield had shown up during a hardcore speedrun tournament livestream to provide us with a little bit of information.

According to Greenfield, hardcore servers will function completely separately from World of Warcraft Classic‘s seasonal servers, and that players on the hardcore servers will be able to partake in a new dueling mechanic, dubbed mak’gora, where players can challenge each other to duels to the death.

The hardcore servers don’t yet have a release date aside from a summer release window, but a public test realm will be coming to the game soon to allow players to test out the new hardcore features.

World of Warcraft Classic is currently in the midst of its Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and earlier this year, got a new difficulty mode for the game’s dungeons.
