During the recent LRG3 presentation, distributor Limited Run Games has announced a remaster of the original Clock Tower. The remaster is stated to be a collaboration between Capcom, Sunsoft, WayForward, and Limited Run Games. Interestingly, the remaster is also the first time that the original Clock Tower will be released outside of Japan.
Clock Tower was originally released on the SNES back in 1995. Predating titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Clock Tower at the time more closely resembled a point-and-click adventure game with horror elements. The franchise would eventually make its way on to the PlayStation and PS2, where it would adopt gameplay similar to its contemporaries.
The Clock Tower remaster will feature the same classic gameplay, but updated for more modern control systems. It will also feature remastered art and animations, making the original’s pixel art look more polished for modern displays.
Rumours of a Clock Tower revival surfaced back in April, when publisher Sunsoft was expected to make an announcement regarding the franchise during a livestream. While the game wasn’t announced at the time, Limited Run Games’ announcement is likely tied to what was expected of Sunsoft earlier this year.
Clock Tower will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in early 2024.
