The Nintendo Switch is in the final stages of its lifecycle, but it still has a number of major games in the pipeline. One in particular that was recently announced and has a lot of people very excited is a remake of the beloved GameCube classic, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year DoorFrom what we saw in its reveal trailer at the recent Direct, it seems to be taking promising shape so far- though it looks like the game will have a caveat on the technical front that many might find disappointing.

As per a technical analysis of the trailer done by Nintendo World ReportPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s remake seems to be running at 30 FPS, unlike the GameCube original, which ran at 60 FPS. Though there’s one particular section of the game that does run at 60 FPS, it’s apparently merely been doubled in speed, with the rest of the footage all being rendered in 30 FPS.

Of course, with the game still a ways off yet, the hope will be that its technical parameters aren’t fully cemented, but based on what’s been shown off so far, it does seem like it will fall short of the original release where performance is concerned.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch in 2024.
