In its latest quarterly earnings report, Nintendo has announced updated sales figures for the Switch as of December 31, 2023. The console has nearly hit 140 million units sold worldwide- to be precise, it currently stands at 139.36 million units sold.

That’s up from 132.46 million units as of the end of the preceding quarter, which means 6.9 million units of the Nintendo Switch were sold during 2023’s final quarter (October-December). Meanwhile, its total lifetime software sales have surpassed 1.2 billion units. Yes, that’s billion with a b.

Where Nintendo’s cumulative performance for the ongoing fiscal year is concerned though, its numbers are trending downward, which is unsurprising, given the fact that the Switch is in the final stages of its active lifecycle. Currently, total hardware sales for the fiscal year (April-December) stand at 13.74 million units, which is down 7.8% year-on-year, while total software sales for the period are at 163.95 million, which is down 4.7%.

Nonetheless, net profits are still up 17.9%, and thanks to a strong Q3, Nintendo has slightly raised its forecasts for the fiscal year. The company is now projecting a total of 15.5 million units of hardware sales for the period (instead of 15 million, which means an additional 1.76 million units sold between January and March), and 190 million units of software sales (up from 185 million, which means another 26.05 million units sold between January and March).
