Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Will Require a Persistent Internet Connection

Not particularly surprising, given the fact that it's been described as a shared world online racer.

Publisher Nacon and developer KT Racing have frequently described upcoming open world racer Test Drive Unlimited as a shared world multiplayer experience, similar to the likes of Forza Horizon and The Crew, so it’s no surprise that it’s now been confirmed that the game will require a persistent internet connection.

The same was confirmed by Nacon in a recently sent out press release accompanying the game’s recent gameplay trailer. Caught by Push Square, Nacon states in the press release that owing to the game’s many social features and the way they’re baking into the design, it won’t be playable offline.

“While driving, you always have other players around you, which creates a living, breathing city,” the press release reads. “In Test Drive Unlimited, this love of cars is also experienced in the social aspect of dealerships and workshops where you can chat about your next purchase, the car of your dreams, and how you’re going to customize or upgrade it.

“For various reasons, these social features require an infrastructure that is constantly connected to online databases: leaderboards, races, inventories, moderation, live events, anti-cheat measures, and the overall game experience. An Internet connection is therefore required to play Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.”

Nacon recently showcased a new gameplay trailer for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown at its Nacon Connect event, but in spite of previously stating that the game would launch before April, a release date still hasn’t been announced, which presumably signifies another delay for the open world racer.

Whenever it launches, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
