Activision has revealed that it has banned more than 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend. Speaking to CharlieIntel, the company said that Team Ricochet was able to identify and ban these accounts thanks to updated detection systems.

“#TeamRICOCHET identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of upgraded detection systems,” said Activision’s Team Ricochet to CharlieIntel. “The team is progressing on a new set of security updates and anticipates more ban waves to come.”

While the exact details about how the detection system works haven’t been revealed, it is quite likely that the number of suspicious accounts over the weekend was higher owing to the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had a free trial for its multiplayer and Zombies modes until yesterday.

As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone recently kicked off its third season, rumours are also going around of the back catalog of the franchise making its way on to PC and Xbox Game Pass. This, of course, is further compounded by the fact that Activision is now officially part of Microsoft’s studios. Microsoft is rumoured to be preparing an announcement related to these older titles during its upcoming summer showcase.
