Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is “Trying to Do Some Groundbreaking Stuff” with Cinematic Storytelling, Amy Hennig Says

"The way we invite the most people in is by bringing them something they already know and love, but in a new form," Hennig says about Skydance New Media's upcoming action-adventure title.

Having led the development and creation of Legacy of Kain, Uncharted, and more, Amy Hennig obviously has a long and proven track record with narrative-driven cinematic action-adventure titles. With Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the Hennig-leg studio Skydance New Media is looking to hit similar heights.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hennig stated she hopes Marvel 1943 is able to deliver “a shared living room experience” that is as engaging to play as it is to watch, similar to the Uncharted games.

“As a new studio trying to do some groundbreaking stuff with cinematically presented games, the way we invite the most people in is by bringing them something they already know and love, but in a new form,” she said.

According to Hennig, a big part of that will be Marvel 1943’s graphical ambitions, with the game aiming for photorealistic visuals, while ensuring that the action and presentation remain grounded is also something the development team is focused on.

“We’re entirely CG, so it’s really easy to get ungrounded real quick,” she said. “You can see even the movies can fall under that trap; too much CG and you don’t know the ground you’re standing on. We really wanted the visual fidelity to be high so that you could kind of forget that you’re looking at a game, that it should feel and look and sound and smell like you’re watching a great Marvel movie or TV show, but you’re driving the action.”

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to tell a globetrotting story that will take players to a variety of different locations. The first of these was confirmed to be Occupied Paris earlier this year, while Wakanda has also been added to that list, with artwork also shown off for the latter. Check it out through here.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to launch sometime in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
