It’s always lovely to see a great game get its due, and that’s exactly what has happened in the case of Nintendo’s Pokémon Pokopia, a title that’s as good a love letter to its inspirations as anything that’s come before it thanks to its charm and solid execution.
The Pokémon Company revealed in a press release that the Switch 2-exclusive life sim has surpassed five million copies sold globally, a remarkable feat on its own, but made even more significant when you remember that the game was released only four months ago. For comparison’s sake, Sega’s Sonic Frontiers took way longer to reach that point, and that was after a bunch of updates, a solid expansion and a Nintendo Switch 2 release. Not that this dulls the Blue Blur’s achievement in any way, of course.
The new Bubbly Basin expansion is sure to have contributed to those staggering numbers. However, it’s clear that Pokopia was already well on its way to achieving the latest feather in its cap anyway. We can’t wait to see what the next couple of chapters in the game’s Expansion Pass bring to the table, and how many more copies it can manage to sell when they drop in late 2026 and early 2027.
