Numerous PSN users have been reporting that scammers have infiltrated the Playstation Network and are stealing users account details.
A number of chain emails containing URL’s to Playstation Network code generators may possibly have manifested themselves as virus attachments, but there is no easy way to tell. Some users have reportedly been charged over $300 for PSN content they did not purchase after opening chain emails.
It is currently unknown as to how PSN details, including credit card information could be obtained over the Playstation Network simply by opening an email, but Sony are investigating.
There have been a large number of these emails circulating. They may claim to offer free PSN points, or free credit, or free PSN content. If you receive any related email; DO NOT OPEN IT. This scam is proving to be highly dangerous, and seemingly has the ability to obtain your credit card details simply opening the email itself.
If you have already opened any such email, take the following steps ASAP:
1) Go to http://playstation.com
2) Sign in to your account
3) Click on “Edit My Account Settings”
4) Log in again
5) Remove your credit card information
6) Change your email and password
There even appear to be links circulating on Digg.com advertising these code-generator sites. Whatever you do, don’t click on them.
