Ghost Recon Online to be F2P because Ubisoft wants to research

Posted By | On 23rd, Apr. 2012

Ghost Recon Online will be free-to-play on the PC, and it will be launched alongside Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Interested in knowing more about the latter? Stay tuned for our beta preview soon.

So, Ghost Recon Online is Ubisoft’s attempt at researching the F2P model. They want to experiment and learn more about it, according to Jean-Marc Geoffrey, the game’s creative director.

“We need to learn how it works: how to make free-to-play successful. Maybe even with consoles,” he said to Eurogamer.

“We don’t know how the future will pan out, the business is changing. It’s business design research.”

It will be interesting to see how it pans out because free-to-play is something that is catching on lately with Gable Newell proclaiming recently that DOTA 2 will follow the same model.
