The key for Super Smash Bros. 4 will be “its dual support for 3DS/Wii U”

Franchise creator Masahiro Sakurai says that the next Super Smash Bros. title will be focussed on its dual compatibility with the 3DS and the Wii U, and that the development team wants to go in a new direction with the game.

“As you noted, there is a certain dead end we come to if we just expand the volume of the game,” he said while speaking with IGN. ” I intend to change direction a little as we go. The key to that’s going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U.”

When asked about when exactly we’ll be able to see the game in action, he said: “I’m really just getting started on this so it’s going to take time, but I’ll come up with something that uses that link as the game’s central axis, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.”

It certainly looks like the devs have some big things planned for us. And we’ll be waiting…
