Video Games Live to air on Sky Arts

Posted By | On 21st, May. 2012

Often overlooked and neglected, the soundtracks to our video games are some of the most powerful and evocative experiences we will ever have. From the ethereal wonder of Journey, to the jaunty pops of Super Mario, nothing wraps you up in the warm blanket of nostalgia like recalling sounds of yesteryear.

To celebrate the wonder of video game soundtracks, Sky Arts will air the global phenomenon of Video Games Live this Saturday, 25 May at 9.00pm.

The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, evoking the wondrous sounds of games gone by, as well as the modern epics, featuring such franchises as Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Halo, Warcraft, Castlevania, God of War, Civilisation and Guitar Hero.

This news comes right off the back of the Classic VG Music campaign to get game scores recognised by the Classic FM Hall of Fame for the first time ever. The campaign managed to get ‘Dragonborn’, from Skyrim, to 238th and ‘Aerith’s Theme’ from Final Fantasy VII up to a staggering 16th place, cementing not only the brilliance of game soundtracks, but also the shared importance they hold for so many people.
