Nintendo Admits Marketting the 3DS Will Be ‘Tricky’

The 3DS, while possibly the most accomplished piece of 3D kits yet, has ts own challenges to surmount. Most notable, marketting a system centred around 3D gaming, when most TV screens at home are 2D, will be tough. So sayeth Nintendo, the gaming lord, and we might as well agree.

“We are constantly discussing how to market the product,” he told Edge. “Our internal PR departments are saying that we should use cinema advertising, because cinemas are capable of showing 3D movies.

“But our key point with 3DS is that you don’t need glasses, which you obviously need to use in cinemas,” says DS Group 1 boss Hideki Konno.
“So we think regular marketing and promotional activities will be very tricky for us. I think that a lot of awareness about 3DS will be spread by word of mouth.”

Of course, at E3, Nintendo did show off quite a funny video to advertise the 3DS. They could also advertise the handheld in cinemas showing 3D movies, and they could set up kiosks everywhere. It’s gonna be a little difficult, but I honestly believe they can manage.
