PS4, Xbox 720 And Wii U: All The Latest Next Gen Gaming Roundup For This Week

Posted By | On 22nd, Jul. 2012

It’s been a slow week for news and rumours about next-gen gaming systems, but here’s what we know so far.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that they don’t care if PS4 and Xbox 720 are more powerful in an interview with GamaSutra.

“The environment is different. Wii U is going to be launching in a different environment than when the Wii was launched. Also, the involvement surrounding [mobile and social] businesses is different than several years ago,” he said.

NowGamer has written a neat article on what devs want from next-gen consoles. Some of them say that the PS3 and Xbox 360 have been maxed out.

Matt Turner, Lead Script Writer:

“As far as where Assassin’s Creed will go, I really can’t say. For me it’s more than graphical fidelity, which I’m sure it will have. The idea of being connected all the time I think is a strong one, and I’d like to see that come through. Whether that translates into the games that come out, I couldn’t tell you. I would like gaming and consoles to move beyond just being consoles.

To have other functions and do them well. As far as what [Sony and Microsoft] are doing, I haven’t the foggiest idea, but that’s where I’d like to see it go. That would be great for Assassin’s Creed, for sure. But as far as where it’s going, I don’t know.”

Check out the rest here.

John Riccitello, CEO of EA, thinks next-gen will begin next year.

“A major catalyst going forward, and the most important catalyst going forward is visibility on next-generation console, because that NPD data – that minus 10-25% that you’ve been seeing – that can and should be reversed out and some point, probably starting next year,” he told CNBC.
