A Look At Gaming In 2011- 360’s Best Year?

Analysis of the Lineup

I must say, that is an impressive lineup. Biggies like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Gears of War, Elder Scrolls, Batman, Deus Ex, Duke Nukem, Crysis and much more all in just one year? We’re gonna have a lot of trouble deciding which game to buy in the next twelve months. And the lineup is pretty varied this time around, unlike the general perception. You’ve got Action RPGs, Fantasy RPGs, Racing Sims, Shooters, Puzzle Adventures, Survival Horror, Action Adventure, not to mention a whole lot of games that must be unannounced right now.

We can also, however, see that while there are a number of genres in this lineup, it is dominated mostly by Shooters, as is usual on the Xbox 360. Gears of War 3, Crysis 2, Homefront, Bulletstorm, Rage, Brink are all shooters. The second most dominant genre is Role Playing, with The Elder Scrolls V, Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dragon Age II.

There is one very major flaw with the entire lineup, however. A flaw that has always been a major loophole in the Xbox 360’s library. That flaw is lack of exclusive titles. Only four games out of all those listed above- XCOM, Child of Eden, Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4- are exclusive titles, and only two are First Party. This has always been a weakness of the Xbox 360’s lineup, and Microsoft doesn’t look very adamant on changing that.

Games That Might Get Delayed

Mass Effect 3- BioWare have been working on Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 2 (PS3),  Star Wars: The Old Republic, Mass Effect 3, and DLC packs for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. Add to that the fact that BioWare had to develop an entirely new engine for Mass Effect 3, and then the entire game, there’s no way they can develop the game properly by Fall. If they want proper outcomes, they’ll have to push back the release date a little.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim- Elder Scrolls V is gonna be a huge game. No, I mean literally huge. It’s going to have a world bigger than Oblivion, it’s being said. Now, Bethesda had to create an entirely new engine for the game, the entire world the game is set in, the entire main storyline, plus all the extra stuff that the series is known for. They also have to make sure that there aren’t any glitches in the game. Now, I don’t know how long they’ve been developing this game, but doing all this work by November is a tough ask.
