Abandoned Developer Clarifies Their Game Has Nothing To Do With Hideo Kojima

Not A Hideo Kojima Game.

Abandoned PS5

Yesterday, we got the reveal of an interesting new game called Abandoned. The game is a cinematic first person survival game, and the teaser and details released seem intriguing. The game was announced as only coming to PS5 and was also by a largely unknown developer. Because of that, it seems that a rumor has latched on with people thinking the mysterious teaser and out of nowhere nature of the reveal made it possible viral marketing for the next game from Hideo Kojima. But it seems the developer wants you to know that definitely isn’t the case.

The developer of the title, Blue Box Game Studios, released a statement to address the rumors. They clearly state that they have no association with Hideo Kojima or Kojima Productions. They say that while they understand they aren’t high profile, they have assisted with games in the past, and decided to work on a title on their own.

“We received several emails regarding the Hideo Kojima rumor. We have no association with Hideo Kojima nor do we claim to have any association nor was it our intention to claim such a statement. We are a small group of developers working on a passionate title we wanted to work on for a long time. We have been assisting other studios in the past with their projects and we wanted to work on our very first big project. While it is true that we’ve been working on small projects in the past, we certainly didn’t use that for marketing purposes. We hope this has clarified this matter and hope to see you all in our very first gameplay reveal of Abandoned.”

While Kojima has been known in the past to be part of some pretty elaborate viral marketing, this rumor does seem to be a bit on the random side, so there’s little reason to believe that Blue Box is lying here. The most recent rumor also says that Kojima is in talks with Microsoft for whatever the next Kojima Productions title will end up being. Abandoned, a Hideo Kojima-less game, will release on PlayStation 5 in Q4 2021.
