Activision Teases Rambo and Die Hard’s John McClane for Call of Duty: Warzone

80's heroes for an 80's map.

Call of Duty: Warzone might be getting some cross-overs with iconic 80s action heroes. How do we know? For the past few days, the official Call of Duty Twitter account seems to have been teasing the arrival of two iconic characters from 80s action movies, specifically John Rambo from… Rambo, and John McClane of Die Hard fame.

It all started with a Tweet highlighting the stats of someone named John who has been using the gamertag SURVIVORJOHN#1009062. If you’re not familiar with the Rambo films, that’s a pretty clear reference to John Rambo, the iconic action character played by Sylvester Stallone. John has an infinite K/D ratio (which means he’s never died), played 5 games (corresponding to the franchise’s five films) over the course of seven hours, and won all of them. It doesn’t get much more Rambo than that.

Two days later, the account posted what looks to be an ad for a fictional business called “Nakatomi Duct Cleaning,” which leads to a company website. “Our world class team is experienced in squeezing through even the smallest of air ducts, crawling until they find the sources of each problem and systematically eliminate them one by one,” the website says. “Contact us for all your needs in Verdansk and ask about our Christmas party discounts.”

This one is easier to parse, making direct references to Nakatomi Plaza, the building Bruce Willis’ John McClane infiltrates in the original Die Hard during a Christmas party.

So why all the 80s references? Probably because Warzone‘s Verdansk map was recently transported back in time to 1984. What better way to celebrate than by adding classic action heroes? It’s not an unprecedented move. Previous crossover events have featured characters from Saw, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and more.
