In a very clever reference or homage to previous Mario games, the developers managed to put a very easy- to- miss reference from previous Mario games.  In one particular level known as Bowser in the Sky, there are pillars that depict in art form, the first fight of Mario and Bowser from the very first Mario game. It’s hard not to watch and smile at the same time, as you wonder how far Mario has come through the years.
