Boo was based on a developer’s wife
There are benefits to getting married, as it sometimes encourages you to come up with a million dollar idea, even though that idea doesn’t exactly compliment your partner. The Boo first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3 and garnered a lot of fans. The idea for the monster came from co-designer Takeshi Tezuka wife. Mr. Tezuka’s wife was quite mad at the time he spent at work and exploded in fit of temper which was out of character for her. This spawned the birth of Boo, who shrinks when Mario looks at it, but when Mario turns away, it will grow large and menacing.
