During Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, the company unveiled a new headset. Dubbed the Vision Pro, the headset is slated to support both virtual reality, as well as augmented reality, making it a mixed-reality headdset. The Apple Vision Pro is slatedd for release in early 2024. Check out the announcement below.

Apple calls the Vision Pro its first “spatial computer”, and the headset will feature a fully three-dimensional interface. The headdset will be controlled by the user’s eyes, hands, and voice. It will run on a new operating system, which follows Apple’s standard operating system naming scheme with the name visionOS.

To make controlling the headset possible, the Vision Pro is equippedd with quite a bit of hardware, including 12 cameras and six sensors. Four of these cameras are on the outside; two for tracking the user’s hands, and two for tracking the world around them. The eye tracking in the headset is handled by two IR cameras and a ring of LEDs.

On the hardware side of things, the Vision Pro will run on Apple’s own ARM-based M2 chip. While Apple hasn’t stated the exact resolution of the headset’s displays, it has stated that it features 23 million pixels across both displays. For the sake of comparison, a 4K TV has more than 8 million pixels.

The Apple Vision Pro is slated to hit store shelves in USA first, and will be priced at $3,499. More countries are slated to get the headset down the line.
