Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed 3 will be shipping on one disc as per usual on the PS3, but surprisingly, it will be shipping on two DVDs for the Xbox 360, becoming the first game in the series to do so.
“It’s two discs on 360 and one on PS3,” creative director Alex Hutchinson said while speaking to NowGamer. “You’d be surprised what blows the disc. Sound blows the disc, but also videos. What was scary for us was we blew the disc with no… there’s only like two videos in the game, the rest is in-game cut-scenes. We were like ‘we’re still blowing the disc? That’s terrifying.’ It’s by far the biggest game I’ve worked on.”
Animation director Jonathan Cooper also reassures fans that you won’t be constantly changing between the two discs, however, he hasn’t detailed how the split has been made.
He said: “Don’t worry, there’s not going to be like, disc-swapping if you get to the end of chapter 3 and having to swap over – that’s not going to happen. We’ve separated it.”
He said it won’t be a single swap of the two discs halfway through the game. “We won’t talk about how it’s done… but don’t worry about it, you won’t be jumping back and forth.”
Assassin’s Creed 3 releases on October 30 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, with a Wii U and PC release planned for later. Stay tuned for more info.
