Recent rumours claimed that the next Assassin’s Creed game, which is allegedly the smaller-scale stealth-focused Assassin’s Creed Rift, would have an Aztec setting, though journalist Jason Schreier was quick to debunk those rumours when he stated that the game is going to be set in Baghdad. Now, we may also have an idea for what at least one of the settings in the game after that, Assassin’s Creed Infinityis going to be.

Being developed as an ever-evolving live service platform, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will allegedly feature multiple games and settings and will keep on adding more over the years. During a recent episode of his Game Mess Decides podcast, journalist Jeff Grubb stated that based on what he’s heard, one of the settings in Assassin’s Creed Infinity is going to be Japan. According to him, the game will also bea big open world RPG similar to recent games in the series, and unlike the upcoming Rift, which also aligns with previous reports (and basic sense, really).

Japan has been one of the most heavily demanded settings for an Assassin’s Creed games for a ridiculously long time, so if this does turn out to be accurate and Infinity has a Japanese setting either at launch or arriving as a post-launch addition, it would be a big deal for fans of the series.

Ubisoft is going to have a Ubisoft Forward Showcase in September where it’ll be talking about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series. While Rift is expected to be officially announced there, it remains to be seen whether Infinity will also receive an update.
