Assassin’s Creed’s present day Abstergo storyline started out very well in the first game, shrouded in complete mystery and cautiously and deliberately moving forward step by step, grabbing the interest of those who paid the earlier games with attention. For a few instalments, that continued, as the story continued to ramp up. However, after it reached a tipping point at the end of Assassin’s Creed 3, it just sort of… stopped.
It’s been present, at least so some capacity, in every Assassin’s Creed game then, but it has either been completely boring, or completely insignificant. It’s importance to both, the series and its fans has sort of fizzled out over the last few years. In an exclusive interview with GamingBolt, we asked the game’s director Scott Phillips if Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will have a present day storyline as well, and if it will attempt to bring it back on track, and while his answer was pretty short, it was also quite interesting.
“It will be present but I don’t really want to going into details of how much or how,” Phillips said. “But there is a strong connection to the present day, to the overall arc of Assassin’s Creed.” That definitely sounds interesting. I, for one, personally hope the game tries to bring the present day storyline back on track, because for the past few instalments, it’s like it has existed only because people expect it to. Whether that actually ends up happening is something we will learn for ourselves when Assassin’s Creed Odyssey launches on October 5 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
