Ubisoft recently announced a last-minute cancellation of its Tokyo Game Show stream, while reports claimed shortly afterward that the company had also cancelled planned press hands-on previews for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Speculation mounted that the open world title was set to be delayed, and that has now been officially confirmed.

Ubisoft has announced that it has delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows by a few months, with the game now expected to release on February 14 next year. The company says that it made the decision based on “players’ feedback, and as an illustration of our player-centric approach”. Though Shadows is feature-complete, Ubisoft says that based on its learnings from the reception for Star Wars Outlaws, it has decided to give the game additional time in the oven.

“While the game is feature complete, the learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title,” Ubisoft says. “This will enable the biggest entry in the franchise to fully deliver on its ambition, notably by fulfilling the promise of our dual protagonist adventure, with Naoe and Yasuke bringing two very different gameplay styles.”

Star Wars Outlaws was, of course, a major release for Ubisoft, though the open world title has failed to perform to expectations. On top of mixed critical reception, the game has also underperformed in terms of sales, with reports suggesting that it had sold less than a million units by the end of August. Its underperformance has also contributed to a consistent decline in Ubisoft’s share prices.

Additionally, Ubisoft has also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be available on Steam day 1 when it launches next year, and that the game will also be dropping its Season Pass model. Read more on that through here.
