Atari, the publishers of Witcher 2 in the US, have filed for bankruptcy and this is just their US division. They did so to break free from their debt-ridden French parent.

Atari A.S. is the parent and the U.S. operations are seeking to break free from it. They have to find a buyer now

“Its leaders hope to break the American business free from French parent Atari S.A. and in the next few months find a buyer to take the company private,” the LA times article read.

“They hope to grow a modest business focused on digital and mobile platforms, according to a knowledgeable person not authorized to discuss the matter privately.”

This follows THQ’s bankruptcy incident, and the videogame industry really has to pick itself up from all these issues soon.
