DICE and EA have rleeased a new trailer outlining the ongoing developent on Battlefield 2042. The latest development update focuses on what the studio is working on in the wake of the Season 1 launch, and the upcoming Season 2.

The video discusses two areas of focus: core gameplay, and maps.

The main topic of discussion for core gameplay this time around are Battlefield 2042‘s Specialists. In Season 3, the Specialists will be transferred to the Battlefield franchise’s classic class system.

All specialists in a given class will have the same traits available, and existing gadgets and throwables will be split up between existing classes, depending on how they fit the role.

Specialists are also getting visual updates in seasons 2 and 3, especially with a focus on making them look more battle-worn rather than clean. The updates will also include changes to voice lines, and body posture, among other things.

Season 2 onwards will also see the release of vault weapons—a collection of portal weaponry that will be become available over time through a new content unlock feature—assignments. To start with, two vault weapons will be available: the M16A3 assault rifle, and the M60E4 LMG, both from Battlefield 3.

As part of Season 2, reworked versions of the Renewal and Orbital maps will be playable. The reworks for both maps hopes to encourage more battles taking place throughout the maps by populating the maps with more cover and different destructible assets.

Season 2’s new map will have an emphasis on infantry-focused gameplay, featuring a smaller layout overall. The map doesn’t yet have a name.
