In news that should surprise absolutely no one, EA and DICE are prototyping a battle royale mode for the upcoming Battlefield game this year, previously allegedly having been leaked as Battlefield 5. Batllefield Battle Royale is currently being prototyped and tested, a DICE insider revealed to VentureBeat.
Battle royale games, such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, involve 100 players landing on a map, and then slowly taking each other out on a gradually shrinking playable area, until only one is left standing. The mode has become extremely popular- apparently, news also broke out yesterday that it might be a part of this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 too. Between that news, the mode’s enduring popularity, as well as the fact that Battlefield games have always been known for their large scale multiplayer modes, it should come as no surprise that one might be in the works for Battlefield, too.
As of right now, however, this is just a rumor, so don’t go around bandying it as fact. I imagine that, if this is true, it will be confirmed at E3 this year.
