While Battlefield 5 trudges on, EA and DICE are also moving full speed ahead with work on the next game in the series. The publisher has stated – and quite recently, in fact – that Battlefield 6 will be launching for next-gen consoles in 2021, and in a recent investors call during their quarterly financial briefing, they provided a update on it once again.
When asked about the state of the project and where it’s at in development, EA CEO Andrew Wilson commented that production is progressive “very, very well,” while also praising DICE for how they have managed to keep momentum on it going in spite of having to work from home due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“Battlefield is progressing very, very well,” Wilson said. “We’re excited by what the team’s doing. And again, in the context of the work-at-home environment they have been truly inspirational in how they have continued to develop great entertainment in the context of our Battlefield universe. So, I’m excited for when next year comes.”
As you might imagine, we know next to nothing about Battlefield 6 right now, other than the fact that it’s in development and scheduled to come out next year. What its setting (or even its final name) will be remains to be seen. We do know that the game will launch on both PS5 and Xbox Series X, but whether or not it also releases for current-gen consoles remains to be seen.
