Bungie Is Working on a New IP With “Lighthearted and Whimsical Characters”

The Destiny studio is working on something completely new, as per a new job ad.

Having split from Activision a year ago, Bungie are now completely in charge of Destiny and where the franchise heads in the future, and while the series is obviously going to be a major pillar for the studio for years to come, that’s not all they’re going to be focused on. A few months back, the developer spoke about how it wanted to introduce more new IPs in the coming years, and now, a new job ad posted by the studio provides some interesting hints about what direction one of these new franchises might take.

The job ad – for the position of Incubation Art Director, mentions a new Bungie IP, and while it obviously doesn’t go into detail about it, it does hold some interesting details about the game’s intended aesthetic, with the listing describing the project as “something comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters.” Elsewhere, the listing also mentions “stylized (real-time) visuals”, while it also requires applicants to have a “strong familiarity with the competitive gaming landscape”- which would imply – unsurprisingly – that the game will have a focus on multiplayer.

Of course, it might be a while yet before Bungie reveals its new IP properly and talks about it in detail, but the job listing does provide some interesting clues. Whimsy, humour, and a focus on multiplayer sort of suggests a game that’s going for something similar to Fortnite in tone- but of course, it’s impossible to draw any sort of conclusion based on just a few key phrases. Either way, it sounds interesting- here’s hoping we hear more about it not log from now.
