Blackout – Call of Duty’s take on the battle royale trend – was the big new addition that last year’s Black Ops 4 made, at the expense of a single player campaign. This year’s Modern Warfare will indeed have a campaign again, but Infinity Ward have been tight-lipped about whether we can expect another battle royale mode. They say for now their focus is on more traditional multiplayer mode, but questions and speculation still persist.
However, as per new information, the game might just end up getting a battle royale mode after all. YouTuber LongSensation – who was the one who initially broke the news that 2019’s Call of Duty will be simply called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – recently took to Twitter to claim that a battle royale mode will be added to the upcoming shooter in early 2020, and that it’ll be added for free.
What’s more, it will allegedly also be downloadable as a separate title – while still being connected to Modern Warfare – itself. Considering the fact that cross-play is going to be supported and that it’s going to be free-to-play (if this is true), it could be a major, major competitor for the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends. It’s also worth noting that Infinity Ward have said there are “many” multiplayer modes that they’re yet to reveal– so this might just end up being one of them.
Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new info that comes our way. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out on October 25 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Meanwhile, recently, reports have also emerged about Call of Duty 2020 and its campaign- read more on that through here.
