Developer Canari Games has unveiled a new 2D action adventure game titled Castaway. The game, inspired by classics like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, features a pixel-based art style, and one of its main selling points is its level of accessibility for all ages. Check out the trailer below.

Castaway puts players in the shoes of Martin, whose spaceship crashed on an uncharted island. Martin’s pet has been taken hostage by hostile creatures, and it’s up to him to retrieve his weapons and set out to rescue his kidnapped companion. The game features 3 boss fights in its story mode, as well as a Survivor Mode that allows players to take on increasingly-challenging trials over the course of a 50-floor tower.

Along the way, players will get access to different types of weapons, and will have to pick the right tool for the job. This ranges from using the grappling hook for increased mobility, a pickaxe for sheer power, or even a regular sword for its speed.

Accessibility seems to be one of the game’s key features, allowing for players of all ages to play the title through a “pacifist” mode that has no enemies to fight, or an “invincible” mode that makes the player unkillable. For those seeking a challenge, there is also an “unfair” mode.

Castaway doesn’t yet have a release date, but Canari Games has announced that it will be coming to PC.
