Paradox has revealed that Cities: Skylines 2, while featuring support for mods, will not be making use of the Steam Workshop to distribute its mods. Instead, the studio is opting to use its own Paradox Mods platform, which is a cross-platform library.

According to Paradox, the decision to move the game’s mod capabilities off Steam Workshop was because it would lock the mods to only the PC release of Cities: Skylines 2. With the game also making its way on to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the studio wants to try and bring the vibrant modding scene of the original Cities: Skylines to the console versions of the sequel.

In the same blog post, the studio had revealed that the PC version of Cities: Skylines 2 may have performance issues on its upcoming October 24 release date. The studio has apparently been unable to hit its performance benchmarks for the game that it was targeting internally in time for the game’s release.

Paradox has promised that Cities: Skylines 2 will be continuously developed even after release, bringing the game’s performance up to standards that it deems appropriate over time.
