Citzens of Earth is an upcoming adventure role playing game that draws inspiration from classic role playing games. The game, which is set to be published by famed role playing game publisher Atlus, is set to receive a wide release by launching across the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Windows PC and Wii U. The game is set to launch on January 20th of 2015 after Atlus stepped in to publish the game following the failed Kickstarter attempt.
Development
Development of Citizens of Earth began when the developers took to Kickstarter with a campaign that was asking for 100,000 Canadian Dollars. Unfortunately they were unable to meet their funding goal and upon the end of the campaign they had only managed to raise CA$36,875 out of the CA$100,000 target goal.
Following the failure of the Kickstarter campaign, the developers promised that they would continue the development of the game despite their failing in the pursuit of crowd funding. They said, “Well unfortunately, the Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful.”…”And in that vein let me assure you, Citizens of Earth is not dead! Far from it in fact. Not only are we pouring our hard work and passion into the game each and every day, which has already improved the quality significantly beyond the demo we released, but there are a lot of amazing developments happening behind the scenes.”
Following this, it was announced on April 9th of 2014 that the game was to be published by Atlus, a publishing and development body that who are particularly well known for their work on handling ports of niche role playing games that would otherwise not reach a western audience.
Story
Players are tasked with taking control of “the newly elected Vice President of the World” and save the earth by gathering a team of your friends, family and local towns folk.
Gameplay
Gameplay in Citizens of Earth is similar to that found in early role playing games. One of the clear inspirations is the game’s instant win. This mechanic automatically resolves battles against low level enemies to save players the monotony of grinding through pointless low level enemies when their at a considerably higher level.
Players will take control of a team constructed of certain characters that are recruited from throughout the game world. The team members that you recruit throughout your adventure all have a world-ability that gives you access to one of more than 50 possible choices. An example of these world-abilities would be the “Barista” who, like their real world counter part, deals with scalding hot water and coffee that can be used to burn others.
Another example would be the baker who can bake health restoring breads, effectively acting as the squads healer unit. The game also features an online versus mode that will have players battle each others team of recruits. This is a rare example of PvP in a squad based, predominately single player game. Given that the game isn’t out yet and that the only available gameplay was that which was taken from a GDC demo, it’s not yet known what the specifics of the PvP game mode will be.
Characters
A character roster hasn’t been revealed yet so all we know about for sure is the the newly elected Vice President of the World who acts as the games primary protagonist. The reason the new VP brings a team with him is because a “A true politician would never get his own hands dirty”.
Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.
