Dark Souls developers trolled you

Suckers

When you begin playing Dark Souls, you are given a “gift” that will help you throughout the game, like the ability to open any locked door with a master key. One such gift was a trinket. This is a kind of a mystery trinket. It’s description in the game reads: “Trinket. No effect, but fond memories comfort travelers.”

Fans have been looking for its actual purpose for nigh on a year, ever since the game came out, and many have even claimed to know what its actual purpose is. The Dark Souls Wiki has a 1600 word long article on this trinket, discussing what its purpose might be.

Upon the release of the game, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki told Famitsu that if he were playing the game, he’d pick only the pendant at the beginning.

However, he has now revealed it’s true purpose: it has no true purpose. It was a troll, a prank. “When it comes to the pendant, I actually had a little bit of an intention to play a prank,” Miyazaki told IGN.

“That’s right,” he said. “When it said it had “no effect,” what it meant was, “no seriously, it has no effect.”

I bet you didn’t see that coming, did you now?
