Diddy Kong was one of the more interesting fighters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, so to see him return in the series’ fourth installment, bound for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, will probably allay some fears many fans had about his return.

Yep, Sakurai confirmed on his Miiverse account that the smaller Kong ape will indeed be featured in the new Smash Bros. game; while not a whole lot of media featuring him was released alongside the announcement, what we got seems to indicate that he will be playing similarly to how he played in Brawl (albeit within the somewhat drastically modified ruleset and mechanics of Smash Bros. 4); his Final Smash too seems to be the same.

Super Smash Bros. 4 is due on on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U later this year. Previous Smash Bros. games have been single handed system sellers, with their ability to move systems exceeding even that of Mario or Pokemon. Can the upcoming game help the struggling Wii U or the declining 3DS?
