Disney has closed LucasArts after a string of poor output from the studio. They have also revealed that they will be adopting a licensing model now and won’t be doing any internal development.
The reason for the studio’s closure was that they wanted to concentrate on Star Wars games because that’s the only thing that will be profitable for them.
They have released a statement as well which outlines the reason for the closure.
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
