Donkey Kong Bananza takes Donkey Kong on an open world adventure with new gameplay mechanics. With all kinds of moves and abilities at his disposal, there are some important things for new players to take note of before they begin.
This guide has a handful of tips and tricks to get you started on your adventures in Donkey Kong Bananza.
Hand Slap
The Hand Slap move has plenty of utility that might not be obvious. Remember that it can highlight objects right through terrain, revealing hidden secrets such as chests, gems, fossils, and more. All kinds of pick-ups in close proximity can be gathered up by Donkey Kong using Hand Slap, even when hanging, making the task of collecting items less tedious. Upgrade this skill to further improve those abilities.
Use Chunks
Chunks are a useful prop that can be utilized by Donkey Kong to enhance his abilities. Simply rip one out of the terrain and use it like a mining tool as you traverse the environment. In combat, it can function in both a melee and ranged role, as you hurl it at distant enemies.
Donkey Kong can reach new heights by using chunks to double and even triple jump. Chunks are also an effective if temporary means of quicker travel, by riding them like a surfboard.
Fast Travel
Remember that you can zip around a Layer easily using the map by teeleporting directly to Checkpoints, Getaways, and Warp Gongs. This will come in handy when you are unsure of how to proceed, or are on the hunt for more resources.
Eelavators at Warp Gongs will teleport you across Layers.
Healing
Replenish Donkey Kong’s health with items like Apple Juice, or Apples you unearth. The Apple Juice skill must be leveled up in order to hold more cans in reserve.
Getaways also restore health when you snooze there and raise your number of hearts temporarily, based on the Comfy Level which is based on the number of Getaways constructed thus far in the Layer. A permanent increase to maximum hearts can only be achieved by working on the Health skill.
Reset Skills
With the acquisition of skill points being connected to a scarce resource in the form of Banandium Gems, you may find it necessary to respec skills instead for specific objectives, and this can be done for free and without any penalty, at the single Elder located within some Layers. There are no limits to the number of times you can respec either.
Reset Terrain
If you find yourself so irrevocably stuck that you cannot proceed due to terrain obstructions, you can simply reset the state of the entire Layer. Navigate to the map and press the button prompt next to ‘Reset terrain’. This also affords you the opportunity to spawn randomized drops again.
Fossil Maps
Fossil Maps make it easy to find hidden fossils by revealing their location on the map. While some can be purchased at the Stuff Shop, by and large you will be finding these in chests which themselves are a randomized pick-up.
Farm Challenges
There are a large number of Challenges to try, and the ones with good pick-ups can be replayed over and over again to farm them, since they respawn on every run. Depending on player skill and current progression, many challenges can provide the best opportunity to farm resources like Banandium Chips and gold quickly and efficiently.
Attire And Fur
Do not dismiss Attire as an entirely cosmetic customization. The bonuses they provide are especially useful in specific scenarios, such as boss fights, or fossil farming runs. Fur, on the other hand, appears to offer no bonuses to gameplay.
Swap Bananza Forms
It might not be readily apparent, but you can switch between Bananza transformations in the same run, allowing you to exploit multiple abilities across skill trees, at least up until the Bananergy meter runs out.
