E3 2010: Gears of War 3 Video Interview

Posted By | On 18th, Jun. 2010

Let me start off by saying that I said “Gears of War 2” instead of Gears of War 3 at the beginning of the interview just because I was at that moment reminded that this was the first time I was meeting the Executive Producer of Epic Games, Rod Fergusson.  I wish I could have had more time with Rod but E3 was crazy and he was in between presentations while giving me his time.  Although short and all over the place, I tried to get right to the point with certain things.

Epic was showing off the 4-player co-op campaign and new ‘Beast Mode’ for Gears of War 3 at E3 2010.  Beast mode is essentially Horde mode from Gears of of War 2 but instead of fighting waves of enemy Locust, it is the other way around.  Beast Mode lets you fights off waves humans, including the main characters of the story, civilians and other COG while you play as a Locust.  You can play as many different Locust in Beast Mode including Tickers and a new Locust that has the ability to duel wield Magnums.. this is a good thing.  I was not able to squeeze that much about multiplayer out of Rod, but we now know of the new one shot sniper that will be in multiplayer but just seen a lot less than the standard sniper rifle for balancing issues.  Girl Gears are now playable and if you play as a Locust in any mode, you can do what we have always wished we could do to someone we didn’t like.. rip their arm off and beat them to death with it.  That’s normal right?  Joking aside that finishing move was rumored to be in Gear 2 and it’s awesome to see that it made it in to Gears of War 3.
