Well, for better or for worse, this year’s mega gaming convention, E3, is coming to an end. It’s been an interesting year, for sure. The biggest sticking point, of course, is the fact that Sony did not attend the show. Will they attend next year? Only time will tell, but we know now when that show will be.

The reception to this year’s convention seemed to be mixed, overall, thanks to a combination of Sony being absent and most companies clearly holding back due to the next generation of consoles being right around the corner. We’ll see how it goes next year, as the ESA announced to those in attendance that the next E3 will take place at roughly the same time in 2020- June 9-11.

The industry is in a curious state right now, where more companies are embracing digital events over traditional conferences and panels. Nintendo was the first, but companies like Sony and EA are going that route too. Ironically, attendance at these kinds of events has actually increased over the last few years despite that. It’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out down the road, but as far as the near-future goes, E3 is still going to be here.
